''Thespesia populnea'', commonly known as the Portia tree , is species of flowering plant in the mallow family, Malvaceae. It is a small tree or arborescent shrub that has a pantropical distribution, found on coasts around the world.〔Oudhia, P., 2007. Thespesia populnea (L.) Sol. ex Corrêa. () Record from PROTA4U. Louppe, D., Oteng-Amoako, A.A. & Brink, M. (Editors). PROTA (Plant Resources of Tropical Africa / Ressources végétales de l’Afrique tropicale), Wageningen, Netherlands.〕 However, the Portia tree is probably native only to the Old World,〔 and may have originated in India. In Malayalam this tree is called "Poovarasu", "പൂവരശ്, ചീലാന്തി". In Tamil language it is called Tamil]] பூவரசு (''puvarasu'') – the wood from the tree was used by early Tamil people to make instruments in ancient Tamilakam.〔(Source: OED)〕 It is possibly indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands and elsewhere in the Pacific, but may have been spread by early Polynesians for its useful wood and bast fibres. The Portia tree reaches a height of tall and a trunk diameter of . It grows at elevations from sea level to in areas that receive of annual rainfall.〔 〕 The Portia tree is able to grow in the wide range of soil types that may be present in coastal environments, including soils derived from quartz (sand), limestone, and basalt; it favors neutral soils (pH of 6–7.4).〔 ==Common Names== Common names vary according to the country. *Sanskrit - पार्श्वपिप्पल (Pārśvapippala), Plaksa *Marathi - पारोसा पिंपळ (Pārōsā Pimpaḷa), आष्ट (Āṣṭa), पिंपरणी (Pimparaṇī), पारस भेंडी (Pārasa Bhēṇḍī) *Tamil - ''Poovarasu'': பூவரசு *Sinhala - ''Gan sooriya'' ගං සූරිය *Malay - ''Bebaru'' or ''Baru baru'' *Polynesian - ''Milo'' or ''Miro'' *Rapanui - ''Makoi'' *Telugu - ''Gangaraavi'' *Malayalam - ''Poovarasu'': പൂവരശ്, ചീലാന്തി *Kannada - buguri mara *Bengali - ''PakuR'' *English - Indian Tulip Tree, Pacific Rosewood, Seaside Mahoe (in Florida), ''Surina'' (the "elegant tree"), On Pitcairn Island, ''miro'' (as it is called there) was once common but extensively logged. 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Thespesia populnea」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
